On 05 March, the Silesian University of Technology signed the agreement with the Astor company for the patronage of a new field of study – automatic control and industrial robotics, established at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology.

The cooperation agreement was signed by the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Professor Arkadiusz Mężyk and Stefan Życzkowski, President of Astor company. The meeting was also attended by Professor Anna Timofiejczuk, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Professor Andrzej Wróbel.

- The Silesian University of Technology is constantly developing cooperation with the socio-economic environment in the field of education and student scientific activities. We try to select such patrons who provide substantive technological knowledge. Nowadays, the emphasis in educating future engineers is on good theoretical foundations, soft skills and the ability to learn. Internships in industry-leading companies, such as Astor, allow students to gain specialisation, says Rector, Professor Arkadiusz Mężyk.

The cooperation with Astor will also include referring students to internships and apprenticeships, submitting job offers, as well as developing issues carried out by students as part of diploma theses, Project Based Learning or projects developed by student scientific associations.

This agreement is one of the examples of actions taken by the Silesian University of Technology together with the socio-economic environment to improve the quality of education and scientific and research works
